Alan W. Brigham 81, of East Bridgewater died Thursday March 29, 2007 at the Brockton Hospital following a sudden illness.
Mr. Brigham was born April 25, 1925 in Dorchester the son of the late Norman W. and Ruth Amy (Lagerstrom) Brigham.
He had resided in East Bridgewater since 1989 with his wife, Dolly. They were looking forward to celebrating their 59th wedding anniversary in May.
He had spent most of his life in Massachusetts, living briefly as a youth in Danbury, Connecticut.
Mr. Brigham followed the machine trades as a vocation; being a machinist, tool & die maker, and a research & development model maker. He had been employed at various corporations such as Gillette, Honeywell, IBM and others as well as operating his own machine shop business for a brief period.
Mr. Brigham became a baptized minister of Jehovah's Witnesses in August, 1950. He found great pleasure reading and studying the Bible and sharing the things he learned with other interested people. He served as a minister for 57 years, starting in Boston, then Quincy, Weymouth, Hingham, and the last 18 years in the Bridgewater Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family enjoying the Florida Keys in winter, Old Silver Beach on the Cape and Amherst, MA in the summer and the fall foliage in Stowe, VT. Mr. Brigham enjoyed sailing and camping and he enjoyed following the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots as well. He also enjoyed fine dining with his many friends and relatives.
Mr. Brigham married the former Dorothy "Dolly" (Libby) Brigham on May 22, 1948, who survives him. He is also survived by his two children, David Brigham of Merrimack, NH and his wife Judy, and his daughter, Lynell (Brigham) Peterson, and her husband George Peterson of East Bridgewater, MA. In addition five grandchildren; Paul and Rebekah Brigham of NH anq Jennifer Page, Laura and Jared Peterson and five Great grandchildren Ezra, Joah, and Eliah Rose Brigham of Merrimack NH and Hunter and Zander Page of Bridgewater survive him.
Mr. Brigham's brother was the late Robert Brigham of Weymouth. Also surviving are his sister Marjorie Schworm of Weymouth, In-laws Peggy Brigham of Plymouth, Nancy Cusiter and Chris Libby of Camarillo CA, Harold & Virginia Corkum of Morganton, NC and numerous nephews and nieces throughout the country and Central America.
A Memorial Service will be held for Mr. Brigham at the Bridgewater Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 215 Whitman Street, Route 106, East Bridgewater, Saturday April 7, 2007 at 2:00 PM. Burial is private and there are no visiting hours.
