NEW BEDFORD -- Francis E. "Frank" Dixon, in his 90th year, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 28, 2007. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Brenda (Norcross) Dixon.
He was born in Eliot, Maine to the late Francis E. Dixon, Sr. and Dorothy A. (Manson) Dixon Brackett.
He was a former radio news editor and former executive vice president of the Rochester, NH; Norwich, CT; and New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce. He was a former Boy Scout Leader, Member of the Board of the United Way, and Trustee of the Smith Mills Congregational Church.
He was a World War II Veteran serving in the US Army Air Corps and was stationed in England from 1942-1946. He received his pilot's license in the 1930's, and his interest in planes and flying continued throughout his life. He was a graduate of Eliot High School and McIntosh College in Dover, N.H. He also enjoyed mountain skiing and hiking until late in his life. He was an avid walker and loved reading and writing, and was quite knowledgeable in the subject of History.
He was happiest when spending time with his grandsons and was an active supporter of all their sports and school activities.
He is survived by a daughter, Janice Paquette and her husband, Maurice of Dartmouth; a son, Keith and his wife, Sarah of Lakeville; 4 grandsons, Craig, Ryan and Scott Dixon of New Bedford and Jeremy Paquette of Dartmouth; his sister, Elizabeth Carlsen of Rye, NH; his brother, Wayne Dixon of Eliot, ME; and several nieces and nephews.
Frank was predeceased by his brothers, Robert, Howard and Kenneth.
A celebration of life memorial service will take place at 11 A.M. on Saturday, April 7th, at the Smith Mills Congregational Church, 11 Anderson Way, No. Dartmouth, Mass. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Smith Mills Congregational Church. His arrangements are with the Wilson Chapel, 479 County Street, New Bedford, Mass. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
