Obituary

John Rojek, a lifelong resident of Olyphant, died Sunday night in Moses Taylor Hospital. He and his wife, the former Mildred Hodorovich, would have celebrated their 60th anniversary on June 7.

Born in Dickson City, son of the late Andrew and Antoinette Mendygral Rojek, he was a 1942 graduate of Olyphant High School and was a member of Holy Ghost Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the European theater of operations. Before retirement, he worked at the Underwood Colliery and at Chamberlain.

He was proud that he had built his own home, with the help of his son, John. He loved gardening and fixing anything with mechanical problems.

His son, George, was a great comfort to him during his illness. His family was by his side at the end and he passed on peacefully.

Also surviving are two sons, John and wife, Leilani, Piscataway, N.J.; and George and wife, Sherry, Olyphant; two granddaughters, Amy and husband, Tristan, Lansdowne; and Jennifer, Harrisburg; a brother, Edward, Olyphant; a sister, Mary Toth; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Sophie Barchak.

The funeral will be Wednesday from the Michael P. Glinsky Funeral Home, 129 Grant St., Olyphant, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Ghost Church, 126 Willow St., Olyphant. Interment, parish cemetery.

Friends may call today, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to the VNA Hospice, Olyphant; or Holy Ghost Church, Olyphant. For more information or to send an online condolence, visit www.glinskyfuneralhome.com.
