... “Tom” former Service Tech for G.E.; 76
TEWKSBURY - Joseph Thomas “Tom” McAllister, age 76, died Monday, April 2, at his
Tewksbury home, surrounded by his loving family, following a lengthy illness. He was the
husband for 53 years of Shirley (Doyle) McAllister, who died last July 17th.
Mr. McAllister was born in Somerville, on September 27, 1930, a son of the late Joseph B. and
Mary B. (Naughton) McAllister, and lived in Somerville until moving to Tewksbury in 1975.
In his youth, while attending Mission High School in West Roxbury, he was active in sports and
was named to the All-Star Catholic H.S. Football Team where he was recognized as the
outstanding player in 1947 and 1948.
During the Korean War, he enlisted into the Marines Corps, and was honorably discharged as a
Sergeant.
He was employed as a service technician for General Electric Company.
“Tom” as he was known to his friends, was a devout Catholic layman, and communicant of St.
William’s Church in Tewksbury.
He was loving described by his children as having devoted his life to his family.
He is survived by three daughters, Cheryl L. Glejzer and her husband Robert of Gilford, NH,
Colleen M. Edgett and her husband Britt of Tewksbury, Sharlene M. Gately and her husband Glen
of Haverhill; a son, Joseph Thomas McAllister Jr. of Newburyport; four sisters, Theresa
Monroe of Stoneham, Marie Brown of Somerville, Patricia Campabasso of Acton, Dorothy
Fitzgerald of Stoneham; eight grandchildren, Shaylan Glejzer, Brittany, Mindy, and Lindsey
Edgett, Joseph F., and Liam McAllister, Ryan and Stevi-Lynn Gately; and many nieces and
nephews.
He was also brother of the late Elizabeth Murphy and Maureen Ryan.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, April 4, in St.
William’s Church, Tewksbury. Burial was in Tewksbury
Cemetery. Memorials to the Little
Sisters of the Poor, 186 Highland Ave., Somerville, MA 02143-1595 will be appreciated.
