Obituary



James E. Murphy, 81 of Brockton died Monday April 2nd at Baypointe Rehabilitation Skilled Care Center. He was the husband of Dorothy M. (Swift) Murphy.

Born in Brockton, a son of the late Thomas G. and Bernice (Salin) Murphy, he was raised and attended school in Abington. He has been a resident of Brockton for over 50 years.

During World War II, he served in the 36th Division out of Texas. He was the recipient of the Silver Star, Combat Infantryman Badge and the European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Murphy , a letter carrier in Brockton. He was a member of National Association of Letter Carriers, Branch 18, VFW Post 1046 and the Disabled American Veterans.

He enjoyed bird watching, gardening and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to his wife of 49 years he is survived by one daughter ,Donna Goesof RI. ; four sons, Edward Murphy, William Murphy, both of Brockton, Timothy Murphy of Texas, Thomas Murphy of Rockland, one brother ,Thomas Murphy of Sandwich ;three sisters, Eleanor Cadres of Whitman, Mary Forti of Braintree, Janet Murphy of Brockton; 9 grandchildren,2 great- grandchildren, many nieces and nephews he was also the brother of the late Gloria Cordaro.

His Funeral will be held Friday April 6th at 10:00 A.M., in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Route 58 at the Rotary Circle) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Knollwood Cemetery, Canton, MA. .Visiting hours Thursday April 5th 4-8 P. M. Donations may be made in his name to the Charity of One’s Choice.
