Walter Bennett Purvis, 71, of Tifton, died Saturday, March 31, 2007, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2007, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Billy Joe Butler and Rev. Phillip Pearson will officiate with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery in Albany. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 2, 2007, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Purvis was born on June 23, 1935 in Maitlan, Florida and was the son of Ruben Purvis, deceased and Mable Marchant Purvis Horne of Albany. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Raymond James Purvis. He was a retired truck driver and a United States Air Force veteran.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Purvis is survived by his wife, Martha Grant Purvis of Tifton; two sons, Walter Kenneth Purvis of Leesburg and Wesley Bennett Purvis of Leesburg; five daughters, Glinda Sue Roberts of Andersonville, Cheryl Lynn Teal of Americus, Shelly Renee Ramirez of Hawkinsville, Sheryl Renett Purvis of Tifton and Amanda Denise Purvis of Tifton; 21 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
