Obituary

John P. "Jackie Mac" McGonagle, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at Boston Medical Center in Boston following a long illness. He was 72 years old.

Jackie was born in Boston on February 2, 1935. He has lived in Charlestown his entire life and attended Boston Public Schools. He also graduated from Northeastern University. He enlisted into the United States Navy on December 4, 1952. He served during the Korean Conflict and was discharged on January 25, 1956. He worked for many years with major insurance companies in the Boston area. He was a Fourth Degree member of Bunker Hill Council #62, Knights of Columbus where he was also past Grand Knight. He was also past past District Deputy of the Knight of Columbus. He was a member of The Bunker Hill Associates and The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association.

Jackie is the beloved companion of Annette Marchetta. He is the father of Jack McGonagle of New York, Jim McGonagle of Charlton, Paul McGonagle of Illinois, Kevin McGonagle of Charlestown and Amanda Marchetta of Charlestown. He is the grandfather of 6 grandchildren. He is the brother of Ann Flynn of Medford and Richard McGonagle of Charlestown.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours for Jackie on Monday morning April 2, 2007, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, at 11 a.m. Cremation will take place following the Funeral Mass.
