Methuen, Ma – Robert J. “Bob” Carney, 87, died Friday March 30, 2007 at Caritas Holy Family Hospital.
Born in Lawrence the son of the late James and Annie (Parent) Carney Bob was a graduate of Lawrence High School “class of 1937”.
Mr. Carney had been employed for more than 30 years with New England Telephone, Co. as a technical engineer before his 1982 retirement.
He was an attendant of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish.
During World War II he served his country in the United States Coast Guard prior to being honorably discharged at wars end.
According to Bob’s family he loved yard work, was an avid sports fan, and with his wife Ruth enjoyed traveling and dancing.
He was also involved with the Methuen Senior Citizens Center, and the Rainbow Club.
A lifelong Methuen resident survivors include his wife Ruth J. (Bottis) (Ralph) Carney, and was formerly married to the late Barbara (Connolly) Carney.
Survivors include one daughter Kathryn (Kate) Carney and her husband Bruce Jaranian of Chelmsford, and children of his wife’s first marriage Richard and Mary Ralph of Maryland, Marilee Ralph & her good friend Dorothy Bosse of Methuen, and Lynda and husband David Bohondoney also of Methuen, 8 grandchildren; Catherine, Michael, Scott, Stephen, Kerri, Andrew, Dawn, and Angela, and 10 greatgrandchildren.
Robert was predeceased by brothers and sisters Leo, Joseph , James and John Carney, Marion Stapleton, Stella Donnelly, Lorraine Kiley, and Irene Wall.
A funeral mass to which relatives and friends are invited will take place on Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock in Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish/St, Theresa Church 22 Plymouth Street Methuen, Ma. with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
At the families request calling hours will be private.
