AUBURN-Edith “Joyce” (Smith) Mitchell, 80, of South Yarmouth, formerly of Auburn, died Friday, March 30th, at the Hermitage, Worcester, after a lengthy illness. She leaves her daughter, Lynn C. wife of Richard Perreault of Boylston; 2 sons, Douglas F. and his wife Sandra (Fowler) Mitchell of Kensington, NH and Robert S. and his wife Catherine (Hastings) Mitchell of Milford; a brother, Gordon and his wife Janice Smith; a sister, Nancy Danielson, all of South Yarmouth. She was also the loving grandmother of 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Joyce was born in Worcester, the daughter of Robert and Margaret (Anderson) Smith and was a 1944 graduate of Auburn High School. She began her career working at State Mutual Insurance Company and after her marriage, she worked at the family bakery, Mitchell’s Bakery in Worcester. After moving to Cape Cod, she worked at a Dental Lab and as a Home Health Aide for the VNA of South Yarmouth. Joyce was a caring and generous person, loved by all who knew her. An accomplished artist, she enjoyed working in her garden, baking, painting, sewing, the beaches of Cape Cod and was an avid golfer.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 4th in O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. Calling hours will precede the service, starting at 9:30.
