Mr. Dimitrios Skambas,70, died Wednesday, March 21, at the Palm Manor Rehab Center with his family by his side.
Mr. Skambas was born June 13, 1936 in Mytilini, Greece the son of the late Athanasios and Christina(Mamolou)Skambas.
Mr. Skambas came to the United States on December 5, 1968, and made his home in Medford later moving to Dracut in 1980.
Mr. Skambas made his living opening and operating pizza restaurants throughout the Merrimack Valley and Greater Boston area.
He was a former member of the Dormition of Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church of Somerville and a current member of the Assumption of Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church of Dracut.
He served his country in the Greek Army earning the rank of sergeant. He is a former council member for the Island of Lesvos association. Mr. Skambas was a hard worker who loved being with his family.
Mr. Skambas is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Mrs. Barbara(Hatzisavas) Skambas of Dracut, two sons, Arthur Skambas of Dracut, Peter Skambas of No. Andover; a grandson, Dimitri Skambas of Dracut; a brother, Paul Skambas and his wife Maria of Arlington,Ma.; a sister, Bessie Andreou and her husband George of Medford; a brother in law, Stavros Hatzisavas of Greece, also many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the M. R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME 295 Pawtucket St. Lowell on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral will take place on Saturday at 10 a.m from the Funeral Home to be followed by services at the Assumption of Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church of Dracut at 11a.m. Interment in Westlawn Cemetery II, Lowell.
