WEBSTER - Adele M. Davis, 96, of 20 Morris Street died peacefully at home Monday, March 26. She was the widow of George Rowell Davis, her high school sweetheart and loving husband.
Born in Pawtucket, RI the daughter of Adele (Gregg) and Albert Behm, she moved to Webster and graduated from Bartlett High in 1930 with Honors in Latin and History. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wellesley College in 1934 and taught at Bartlett High School. After raising her family, she returned to teaching at Dudley Jr. High where she taught English and Latin and continued her devoted service as a freshman English teacher at Shepherd Hill. Her love of teaching kept her in the profession for over three decades. When she retired in 1992 at the age of 81, the yearbook was dedicated to her.
She is survived by a daughter, Adele Swart of Chaplin, CT, and a son, Charles Davis of Boise, Idaho; three grandchildren, Richard Swart, Geoffrey Davis, and Andrew Davis; and four great grandchildren, Corrine Swart, Nathan Swart, Jonah Davis, Sofia Davis and a sister-in-law, Lucy Davis.
Mrs. Davis was a member of the Wellesley Alumni Association and the United Church of Christ and was a member and benefactor to numerous wildlife and environmental organizations. Her desire to protect the environment and her love of animals was evident in all aspects of her life.
A memorial graveside service will be held at Corbin Cemetery, Corbin Road, Dudley on Saturday, April 14th at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Wellesley College Resource Dept., 106 Central St., Wellesley, MA, 02481, or to Bosler Humane Society, PO Box 12, Baldwinville, MA 01436. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski and Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street.
