Obituary

DRACUT - Louis C. Mechalides, Sr., of Dracut, died Wednesday March 28th, 2007, surrounded by his family, at Lowell General Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Flora (Shanks) Mechalides.

He was born in Lowell on November 22, 1922, the son of the late Charles and Paulin (Arseniou) Mechalides. He was educated in Lowell schools.

Mr. Mechalides was the owner and operator for more than fifty years of Ace Express.

He enjoyed dancing and stock car races. He owned car 444 in the 50's and 60's. He also enjoyed traveling to Bermuda and Greece.

He was a Mason and a Shriner, holding memberships in the Kilwinning Lodge A. F.& A. M., The Aleppo Shriners of Wilmington, The York Rite, The Scottish Rite, Mount Horeb Royal Arch Chapter, and the Acacia Club of Dracut. He was also a longtime member of the Lowell Masonic Association.

Mr. Mechalides is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Paula (Mechalides) Leavitt and her husband Raymond of Tyngsboro, and Amanda (Mechalides) Bilodeau and her husband Normand of Dracut; a son Louis C. Mechalides, Jr., also of Tyngsboro; a sister-in-law Doris A. Kelley of Lowell; a brother-in-law Andrew M. Shanks and his wife Mildred of Dracut; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late George Mechalides, Matilda Metaxes, Bessie Panas, and Helen Polymeros; and brother-in-law of the late James and Phyllis (Shanks) Abrams.

Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, on Saturday from 10 until 12pm, followed by his Funeral Service at the funeral home. Burial in Richardson Cemetery, Dracut. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Shriner's Hospital, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.
