Rita E. (Morris) Swales, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Tuesday March 27, 2007 at Wingate of Reading Nursing Home in Reading following a lengthy illness. She was 90 years old.
Rita was born in Boston on April 11, 1916. She has lived in Charlestown her entire life and attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School. Rita worked as an operator for over 40 years for the former New England Telephone and Telegraph Company. She was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association.
Rita is the beloved wife of the late George Swales. She is the beloved mother of Paul J. Morris of Charlestown. She is the devoted Nana of Patricia A. Montgomery, Paul, Kevin, Daniel and Christopher Morris. She is also the great-Nana of Amber, Grace, Abbie, Ryan, Brendan and Madeline. She is the mother-in-law of Joanne Morris of Revere. She is the beloved sister of Raymond Morris of Charlestown, Augustine "Gus" Morris of Falmouth and the late William, Victor and George Morris.
Rita's Funeral will be held on Friday March 30, 2007 at 9 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown, followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Rita will be held on Thursday March 29, 2007 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
