Roland R. MacDonald, 70 of Derry, NH died Sunday March 25, 2007 at the Concord Hospital, Concord, NH. Mr. MacDonald was born in Derry on May 7, 1936 a son of the late Edgar F. and Gladys (Young) MacDonald and lived most all his life in Derry. He served from 1958 – 1962 with the US Army. He retired in 1998 from Suburban Propane in Milford, NH where he was employed for 35 years. He was a 45 year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Derry where he served as Past Regional President and also served 35 years as the clubs secretary. He was a 25 year member of the American Legion Lester Chase Post #9 and a member of the Halcyon Club, both of Derry. In 1986 he and his wife owned and operated Town Taxi in Derry. Following his retirement he drove taxi for Freedom Taxi in Derry. He was also a previous owner of the Newspaper Store formerly located on Broadway in Derry.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jeannette H. (Clement) MacDonald of Derry, two brothers, Harlan MacDonald of Londonderry, NH, Kenneth MacDonald of Bedford, VA, one sister, Phyllis Patten of Louisville, KY, also numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Maurice and Philip MacDonald.
Calling hours were held on Thursday March 29th from 6 – 9pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services were held Friday at 10:00am in the funeral home with cremation to follow. Burial with military honors will be held on Monday April 2nd at 11:00am in the NH Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, NH Affiliate, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150-1160 or to the American Heart Association, Northeast Affiliate, 2 Wall St., Manchester, NH 03101.
