Joseph H. DeFillippo, 84, Of Lawrence died unexpectedly at his home on March 22nd, 2007. He was born on July 4th, 1922 to Luca and Caroline (DeAngelo) DeFillippo.
Joseph was born and lived his entire life in Lawrence. He was educated in Lawrence Schools and was a graduate of Lawrence High School class of 1941. He was a communicant at Holy Rosary Church of Corpus Christi Parish in Lawrence, MA. Joseph served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He was employed by Jo-Gal Shoe Company and worked for over 20 years for the Lawrence Community Development Department and for the Lawrence Housing Authority.
Joseph was an outstanding athlete at Lawrence High School earning letters in football, basketball, and outdoor track. He was honored by induction into the Lawrence High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000. He was a loyal supporter of Lawrence High Athletics, serving as President of the "L" Men’s Club for many years. He was also a member of the Sons Of Italy and the Holy Name Society At Corpus Christi Parish in Lawrence. He was also a coach and manager for the Methuen Little League Braves for over 20 years. He enjoyed dancing to the sounds of big band music.
Joseph was predeceased by his mother and father, His brothers: Joseph, Frank, Henry, Carmen and Stephen; sisters Mary, Elizabeth, Angela, and Antoinetta. He is survived by his sister-in-law Nellie Di Fillippo, many beloved nieces and nephews and close friends; Joseph Coakley, Amaro DelliColli and Dan Sevastano.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 27th, 2007 At 10:30AM At Holy Rosary Church @ Corpus Christi Parish in Lawrence, MA. A burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence, MA.
