Gerald F. Ginty, 81, of 23 Oakwood Drive, Gales Ferry died Thursday, March 22, 2007 at Mystic Manor Nursing Home.
He was born Dec. 3, 1925 in Stamford, the son of Edward and Marie Ginty.
He married Annette Daly of Darien on Nov. 12, 1955 in Noroton. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Germaine and son-in-law Michael of Groton; two sons, Normand of Huntsville, Ala., and Christopher of Webster, N.H.; four granddaughters and two great grandchildren.
Gerry graduated from Stamford High School Class of 1943. He served in the Army as a code breaker during World War II sending and receiving US coded messages and ending his career as an expert Japanese code breaker. Gerry was the recipient of the American Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Following his service in the army, Gerry attended Columbia University, graduating with a degree in electrical engineering in 1949.
After graduation from Columbia, he worked at the Aberdeen proving Ground, the Underwater Sound Lab in New London and Electric Boat in Groton. Gerry was involved in some of the most sophisticated work done at Electric Boat and was recognized by his peers at EB and colleagues in Washington, D.C., as a pre-eminent engineer. He retired from Electric Boat in 1995 after 37 years of service. He was also a member of the Connecticut Matt Talbot Retreat League for 41 years.
In his leisure time, Gerry enjoyed attending concerts and symphonies. He and his wife Annette particularly enjoyed vacationing on Cape Cod each year.
His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Sunday from 4-6pm. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Route 12, Gales Ferry.
