Joseph F. Mace, 57
Retired MBTA Motorman

Joseph F. Mace, 57, of Mansfield died on Thursday March 22, 2007 at Morton Hospital in Taunton, MA. He was the beloved husband of Sarah E.”Sally” (Flores) Mace to whom he was wed to on May 16, 1970.
Born in Boston, MA on September 13, 1949 he was a dear son of the late Charles and Emma (Budrow) Mace.
He grew up in Dorchester and was educated in Dorchester schools. Mr. Mace was a Motorman, having worked for the MBTA on The Redline for 18 years before retiring in September of 2006 due to illness. He had previously been employed for 18 years at the former Supreme Meat Packing Co. which was located in New Market Square, Boston.
Joe was a member of the both The Carmen’s Union Local 589 and The United Commercial Food Workers Union.
He enjoyed times spent with his family, woodworking and building projects, especially around his home. In 1975 along with the railroaders group which was sponsored by the former Mystic Club in West Mansfield he was a participant in the Town of Mansfield’s Bicentennial Parade.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, Mr. Mace had made his home in Mansfield for the past 35 years and was formerly of Dorchester.
Besides his beloved wife of over 36 years he is survived by his devoted daughters: Christina E. “Tina” Melberg and her husband Paul of Norton and Lisa M. Grenier and her husband Parnell of Middleboro. He was the brother of Carol Mason of Dorchester, Charles Mace of Bradenton, Florida and Joan Gorman of Braintree. Also survived by his cherished grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday March 26th at 9:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday March 25th from 3-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Mace’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the American Cancer Society Centralized Memorial Processing Center 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
