Obituary

ROCHESTER-Harry A. Brown, Jr., 89, a Rochester resident of 57 years, passed away peacefully with his family at home on Monday, March 19th. He was the husband of Helena (Osgood) Brown married 57 years this June.
Born February 12, 1918, in Providence, R.I. and moved shortly to New Bedford. He was the son of the late Harry and Claire (Ashley) Brown.
He was formerly employed by the United States Government as an Electronic Specialist for 25 years. Then he was employed as a Quality Control Electronic Inspector until his retirement.
He was a WWII Army Veteran serving in Southern France, Germay and other locations throughout Europe and was the recipient of many ribbons and metals including the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Benjamin D. Cushing VFW Post 2425 of Marion, and held the position of Post Commander two times.
He served the community of Rochester as a Selectman and numerous other elected positions over a 25 years period.
He was the Charter President of the Rochester Lions Club in 1966 and served again as president in 1971. In 1980 he was elected and served as District Governor 33-S for the state of Massachusetts. He was presented the "Melvin Jones Fellow"from the Lions Clubs International Foundation for dedicated humanitarian services.
He was a member of The First Congregational Church of Rochester, The Rochester Historical Society, The New Bedford High School Class of 37 Reunion Committee, and Alewives Anonymous Inc.
Survivors include his wife; his two sons, Christian H. Brown and his wife, Carolynn of Rochester and Lincoln A. Brown and his wife Sally of Tullahoma, Tn; a nephew Matthew Davis of San Francisco, Ca; 8 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. Harry was preceeded in death by his son, Tyler O. Brown and his sister Carol A. Davis.

His funeral will take place on Friday, March 23rd at 1 P.M. in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford, Ma. with visitation on Thursday from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial in the Rochester Centre Cemetery, Rochester, Ma.
