James C. Lewis, of Newton Centre President and CEO of Assistive Technologies Inc., died March 21, 2007 at the Mass General Hospital in Boston. He was 55.
Born in Newport RI, he graduated from Rogers High School in 1969 and URI in 1973 with degrees in Mathematics and Chemistry. He was also president of Phi Sigma Kappa. Jim served as Chief Information Officer for Harvard Community Health Plan for many years. He later founded Assitive Technologies Inc. which develops software and hardware for chronically disabled to help them communicate and in their daily lives. They also developed learning plans for schools for mentally challenged students. A resident of Newton since 1974 he was very active in the community where he coached boys and girl’s baseball, soccer, and basketball. He had recently helped establish a basketball league at Sacred Heart Parish Center in Newton Centre. An avid horseracing enthusiast he had attended races at Saratoga Raceway in New York for 30 consecutive years. He was also a member of Wanumetonomy Golf & Country Club in Middletown RI.
Jim is survived by his wife of 30 years Deborah A. (Johnston) Lewis, his children Julia Lewis and Chris Lewis both of Newton Centre, and his sister and brother Marea Lewis and Sturgis Lewis both of Newport RI.
A funeral service will be held on Sat march 24 at 10 AM in St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church 57 Brown St. Weston. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment will be private. Visiting hours will be in the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St. Newton Corner on Fri form 4-8 PM.
