Ellen L. (Hinds) McGrath, 82, died at home in Nelson, NH on Wednesday, March 21 after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Bernard K. McGrath. Born in Milton, she was a graduate of Milton Schools and Skidmore College in New York. She was a resident of Nelson for 2 years after living in Avon for 50 years. Mrs. McGrath was a school teacher in Avon, Holbrook and Brockton for several years and was the Activities Director for the Norfolk Nursing Home in Stoughton from 1976-1986. In her free time she enjoyed crafts, crocheting, knitting, sewing, cooking and gardening.
Mrs. McGrath is survived by her children, Peter M. McGrath of Attleboro, Mary Ellen McGrath and her partner Mary Ann Wolski of Nelson, NH and Patrick K. McGrath and his wife Catherine of E. Bridgewater, as well as her grandchildren, Ashley and Michael McGrath and Briana and Derek Tammaro. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Caryl E. Hinds and Ray A. Hinds, Jr.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, March 24 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Michael’s Church, Avon at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Friday 3-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ellen‘s name may be made to Make a Wish Foundation, 1 Bulfinch Pl, 2nd Floor, Boston, MA 02114. Burial will be private.
