Charlie Manzola 94 formerly of Medway died March 19 in the Keystone Nursing Center in Leominster. He was the husband of the late Angelina M. (Marchese) Manzola who died in 1995.
Born in Brooklyn New York, November 21, 1912, the son of the late Anthony and Theresa (Saliano) Manzola, Mr. Manzola was raised in Brooklyn and had lived in Milford for 10 years prior to moving to Medway in 1957 where he lived until moving to Winchendon 4 years ago.
Mr. Manzola retired in from General Motors 1969 after 22 years as business agent for Local #422 in Framingham.
He had previously worked as a stevedore on the New York City docks for many years.
Mr. Manzola had worked as a “sand hog” in the Brooklyn Navy Yard during World War II and was also in charge of gasoline rationing at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, NY during the War.
He was a former member of the Italian Vets Club of Milford, Medway Senior Citizens Club, Lovering Heights Club, the Massachusetts Police Association, the National Rifle Association and a member of the U.A.W. Local #422 in Framingham.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Manzola and her fiance, Timothy Halpern of Winchendon, Theresa Villani and her husband, John of Hopedale and a son, Anthony Manzola of Blackstone. He was the father of the late Louise Burkhart.
He was the brother of the late John and James Manzola, Angelina Losi, Antoinette Marchica, Mary Quain and Rose Wiederer.
He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His funeral will be held on Saturday March 24 from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home 3 Barber St. Medway at 9:15 followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, Village Street Medway at 10:00.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
