Obituary

James H. Barry, retired president of Pier Fish Co., Boston, died Sunday at his Medford home surrounded by his loving family. He was 87.


Jim was born in Boston, the son of the late James and the late Grace (Quinn) Barry. A Medford resident for most of his life, Jim joined the Army during World War II and faught in the Pacific Theater in New Guinea, the Philippines and Luzon. He was awarded the Bronze Star. After the war Jim returned to run his family’s wholesale fish business, Pier Fish Co. The company has now grown to own a processing plant in New Bedford and has offices in Columbus, Ohio and Buffalo, NY. Jim was past Exalted Ruler of the Medford Elks.


He was the beloved husband for sixty years of Alice J. (Ahern) Barry. He was a devoted father to Jean Barry-Sutherland and her husband Thomas of Medford, James and his fiancée Linda Cefalo of Fairhaven, Michael and his wife Nancy of Acushnet, Maryellen Trane and her husband David of Wilmington, Marian Barry-Ravagni and her husband Hugh of Saugus, Kevin and his wife Gloria of Wilmington, Richard of North Dartmouth, John and his wife Luanne of Medford. Jim also leaves six loving grandchildren.


His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main St. Medford, Thursday, at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St. Medford, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family, Wednesday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.


It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Angell Memorial Hospital, So. Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130.
