W. J. Henderson, 89, of Ocilla, Georgia died Monday, March 19 at Osceola Nursing Home in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, March 21 at Ocilla United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jim Osborn officiating. Interment will follow in Brushy Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Henderson was born April 21, 1917 in Ocilla to the late Grover Bates and Texas Rowan Henderson. He lived in the community all of his life, graduating from Ocilla High School in 1935. Mr. Henderson was a retired Rural Mail Carrier and former owner/operator of Henderson’s Tire & Recapping Company. He served on the Ocilla City Council for 16 years and was a former member of the Ocilla Housing Authority Board. He was a member of the Ocilla United Methodist Church and was former Treasurer for the Ocilla Lions Club.
Mr. Henderson is survived by his wife, Mary Emma Shultz Henderson of Ocilla; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Warren J. (Patty) Henderson, Jr., of La Grange and Joseph S. (Pamela) Henderson of Washington, DC; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jerome) Brumby and Warren J. “Ware” Henderson, III, all of Atlanta; brothers and sisters-in-law, Maurice (Zelda) Henderson of Ocilla and Kermit (DeLaine) Henderson of Albany. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Cotten and a brother, G.B. Henderson, Jr.
