William L. Stapleton, 84, A life long resident of Lawrence, MA. Died on Saturday, March 17th, 2007 at the Mary Immaculate Nursing Home in Lawrence, MA.
He was born on May 25th, 1922 and educated in Lawrence, MA. He was the son of Edward and Catherine (Linehan) Stapleton. William served with the United States Coast Guard during WWII, as a cook and was Honorably discharged in 1945. He worked for Malden Mills as a Security Guard for over 20 years until his retirement in 1984. He was past Grand Knight Lawrence Council 67 Knights of Columbus, Past Faithful Navigator, Fr. O'Donnell Assembly Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Past Grand Commander of Castile Casovan #63 Order of Alhambra, Past regional director State of Mass. for Order of Alhambra, Member of Lawrence Lodge of Elks, B.P.O.E. Lodge #65, Lawrence, MA. Member of St. Anne's St. Vincent De Paul Society, President of Greater Lawrence Association for Retarded Citizens, Chairman of Lawrence Council on Aging. Bill or William as many called him went out of his way for many people in the city.
He leaves his loving wife of 58 years: Marie I (Dion) Stapleton and his daughter: Diane M. and her husband Beniot R. Noel of Hooksett, N.H. one grandson: William R. and his wife Susan M. Duquette of Fremont, N.H. Two great grand sons: Nolan R. and Gavin A Duquette, also 5 sisters: Catherine Mulcahy of South Lawrence, MA. Margaret Kornbloom of New York, Eileen Jacobs of California, Theresa Escolillo of East Boston, Dorothy Thibault of Methuen, MA. as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 23rd 2007, at 10:00AM at Our Lady Of Good Counsel Parish in St. Theresa's Church in Methuen, MA. A burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen, MA.
