Obituary

Worcester- Algerd B. Sutkus, 75, of 48 Beaver Street, died Thursday, Oct. 31, in UMass-Memorial Medical Center-Memorial Campus, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 51 years, Gladys T. (Jason) Sutkus; two sons, Kenneth B. Sutkus of Grafton and Steven A. Sutkus of Chicopee; two daughters, Deborah A. Southwick and Carol A. Kelly, both of Worcester; two brothers, John K. Sutkus of Paris, France, and Albert R. Sutkus of Worcester; a sister, Alexandria J. Sutton of Fitchburg; 8 grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of John and Julia (Vaitus) Sutkus and graduated from Commerce High School and Worcester Junior College.

Mr. Sutkus was a self employed painter and wallpaper hanger for over 30 years, retiring in 1992.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the Philippines.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish and the American Legion.

The funeral will be held Monday, Nov. 4, from Dirsa-Morin Funeral Home (www.worcesterfuneral.com), 298 Grafton Street, with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
