Mary A. (Barahona) Bennett passed away at the Hammersmith House Nursing Care Center in Saugus on March 18, 2007. She was 82 years old.
A lifelong resident of Malden, Mary was an active woman. She worked as a seamstress and a dressmaker and was also a former Registrar of Voters for the City of Malden. Her last job was working as an assembler at Armatron Co. in Melrose. Mary was a past State President of the Italian American War Veterans and a past Post President of the Italian American War Veterans in Malden. She also volunteered her time as a seamstress for the Boy Scouts and Malden Babe Ruth League where she was affectionately known as Ma Scout and Ma Baseball.
Mary was the wife of the late John P. Bennett Sr., her husband of 35 years. She leaves behind her three children, John Bennett Jr. and his wife Donna of Malden, Paul Bennett Sr. and his wife Debra of Malden and Kevin Bennett and his wife Karen of New York. She was also predeceased by six brothers and sisters.
The Funeral will be held from the A. J. Spadafora Funeral Home, 865 Main Street, Malden on Thursday, March 22nd at 9:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in The Church of the Sacred Hearts, 297 Main Street, Malden at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are on Wednesday, March 21st from 4-8 pm. Interment Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden. In lieu of flowers, donatations in Mary's memory may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02140-1102.
