Obituary

Raymond, T., “Skip” Danty, 81, of Granby Street, died Friday at Landmark Hospital in Woonsocket. He was the beloved husband of Teresa (Adamo) Danty. They were married for 55 years.
Born in North Providence, a son of the late Michael and Sarah (Parsons) Danty he lived in Glocester most of his life.
Mr. Danty was a member of the Teamsters Local #251 and worked for the former American Chemical Company until retiring. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII. Ray served on the USS LST 708 in the South Pacific and was part of the first wave at 7am April 1, 1945 in Japan. He was one of three crewmen aboard the LST 708 who went to the rescue of a downed seaplane off the island of Mindoro in the Philippines in 1945. More than 50 years later, Danty and his shipmates were honored with the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for their heroism. According to the official citation, “With little regard to his own personal safety, (Danty) entered the burning plane repeatedly and assisted in rescuing all survivors.” “By his prompt and courageous actions in the face of great personal risk, Petty Officer Danty prevented further loss of life…”
Besides his wife he is survived by his daughters, Cheryl A. Rotellini of Hammonton, NJ, Donna Marie Villaneuva of Cumberland and Lori A. Desautel of Chepachet, five grandchildren and a sister, Dorothy Pearl Lewis of Linwood, NJ. He was the brother of the late Edward and Michael Danty.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 8:30am from the *ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville, RI. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in St. Philip’s Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial with military honors will follow in RI Veterans Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday 4-7 pm.
