Mr. Louis A. DeLena, age 86, died in Melrose at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Thursday, March 15, 2007 after a lengthy illness. Born in Revere, Louis was the son of the late Teresa (Quintina) & Giuseppe DeLena.
Louis worked for the City of Medford in the Water & Sewer Dept. for over 22 years. He retired in 1982 as the Superintendent and in his retirement he enjoyed gardening and mushrooming. He was a founding member of the VFW Post 1012 of Medford and a member of the Italian American Club in Medford. Louis was born and raised in Revere and graduated Revere High School. He joined the US Navy and served from Sept. 1942 - December 1945.
Louis is survived by his beloved wife Marie (Altoonian-Minasian) DeLena. Devoted father of Charlene Callahan and her husband James of Chelsea, Louis M. DeLena and his wife Donna of Malden. Brother of Katherine “Kay” Penza, Joseph DeLena both of Florida, Frank DiLena, Jerry DeLena both of Revere, Gloria MacDonald of Lynn, Richard DeLena of Medford, Robert DeLena of Melrose, the late Rose Marotta and Ronald DeLena. Also survived by many loving friends, nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD, Monday at 8 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 3 thru 7. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
