Bridgewater- Edmund J. Callaghan, 67, of Bridgewater and Clarita, OK, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at Kent Hospital in Warwick, RI. He was the husband of the late Peggy N. (Collins) Callaghan.
Born Jan. 19, 1940, in Boston, he was the son of the late Martin and Helen (McGary) Callaghan.
Raised in Brighton, he attended Brighton High School.
Mr. Callaghan was in the US Navy and served during the Vietnam War, staying stateside.
He was a pressman at the Boston Globe for 39 years, retiring in 1994.
Mr. Callaghan was a member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Council 488 of Bridgewater and the Boston Pressman’s Union Local #3.
He resided in Bridgewater for the past 35 years and on his farm in Clarita, OK.
Mr. Callaghan coached Bridgewater youth basketball and soccer and taught CCD at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
He was one of the founders of Bridgewater Raynham International Soccer Club (BRISC).
He was the father of Martin Callaghan of Quincy, Loraine Nelson of Bridgewater, Kathleen Callaghan Kilfoyle of Prairie Village, KS, Maureen Callaghan of Taunton, Peggy Callaghan of Middleboro, Audrey Dill of Coventry, RI, Edmund Callaghan Jr. of Bridgewater and Madelyn Uzzo of East Bridgewater; brother of Thomas of Canton, Paul of W. Palm Beach, FL, Mary Admirand of Brockton, William of Walpole and the late John Callaghan and Helen Yarosz. Also survived by 30 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rte. 18), Bridgewater, Monday at 8:15 am. Funeral Mass in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Bridgewater, at 9 am. Burial in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday 3-7 pm.
