DUDLEY – Walter F. “Pop” Grzych, 85, formerly of Charlton Road, passed awayWednesday, March 14, at Lanessa Extended Care Facility after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Josephine F. (Kondek) Grzych; 1 brother, Felix Grzych of Columbia, CT; 2 sisters, Emily Forand of Webster and Clara Cournoyer of Southbridge; many nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Henry, Charles, Theodore and Joseph Grzych; and by his sister, Louise Stypulkowski.
He was born in Dudley, the son of Stanley and Josephine (Duszlak) Grzych and was a lifelong resident.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Buck. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart.
Mr. Grzych was a heavy equipment operator for the Dudley Highway Department for 31 years, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of Saint Andrew Bobola Church and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The funeral will be held Saturday, March 17, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., Webster, with a Mass at 1:00 PM in St. Andrew Bobola Church, 54 West Main Street. Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster. Calling hours are from 10:00 AM to 12:15 PM Saturday, March 17, in the funeral home.
