GLOUCESTER: Janet R. (Mortimer) Silva, 79, 42 Poplar Park, died Sunday morning, February 25, 2007 following an extended illness. She was the wife of the late Manuel Silva, who died in 1975.
Born in Gloucester on March 25, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Burgess E. and Nellie (Goodhue) Lawry.
She was employed as a clerk for many years at the former Zayre and Ames Department Stores. She was an avid reader and enjoyed collecting lighthouses and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Catherine T. Mortimer of Lowell, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Anthony M. and Lynda Silva of Quincy and John P. Mortimer of Holland, Mass., a stepdaughter, Ruth Kinghorn, seven grandchildren, Cassandra A. Mortimer, Anthony M. Silva, Jr., Joseph M. Silva, April Mortimer, Jillian Blakely, Amanda Blakely and Lindsay Megan, and several cousins including, Janet Crews. She was predeceased by her brother, Frank G. Lawry.
Her funeral services will be held from the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester on Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in the Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the North Shore Cancer Center, c/o NSMC Foundation, 81 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970 (nsmc.partners.org) Interment will be held in the Beechbrook Cemetery.
