Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Donald R. “Donnie” Lane, 75, died Friday, March 2, 2007 at his home following an extended illness. He was the husband of Carol A. (Jacobs) Lane.
Born in Gloucester on June 30, 1931, he was the son of the late Russell and Ethel (Banks) Lane. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and had attended Gloucester public schools.
Donnie was employed as an oil burner serviceman for the former John Alden Griffin Fuel Company for thirty-seven years. In his younger days, he loved going to stockcar races and enjoyed numerous trips to Nashville and the Smokey Mountains. He also liked walking through the West Gloucester woods with his beloved Great Danes and his wife. He enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved listening to music, especially country music and going to concerts. He also enjoyed swimming at Stone Pier and family picnics.
In addition to his wife of fifty years, he is survived by four sisters, Jenny and her husband, Manny Duarte of New Bedford, Helen Lane, Josephine Jacobs and Shirley Haight, a brother, Arthur “Red” Lane all of Gloucester, five sisters-in-law, Thelma Lane, Shirley Favazza and Bonnie and her husband, Bentley Warren all of Gloucester and Marjorie Rotondi of Melrose, two brothers-in-law, Ronald Jacobs and Maurice Roberts both of Gloucester, a godson, Tayler Smith of Douglas, MA and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Leslie “Kip” Lane and George Lane, a sister-in-law, Evelyn Roberts and four brothers-in-law, Charles Favazza, Robert Jacobs, Lawrence Haight and Roger Jacobs.
A memorial funeral service will be held on Friday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 2 P.M. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923 or to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 260 Main St., Gloucester.
