John Daniel Griffin, 87, of Alapaha, Georgia, died Monday, March 12 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.
Funeral Services will be held 11 A.M., Friday, March 16, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Alapaha, with Father Alfonso Gutierrez officiating. Interment will follow in the Fletcher Cemetery at Alapaha. A Rosary service will be held at 6 P.M., Thursday at the funeral home in Ocilla. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday evening at Paulk Funeral Home in Ocilla.
Mr. Griffin was born August 9, 1919, in Berrien County to the late Henry D. and Della Webb Griffin. He was a farmer and lived in the community all of his life. Mr. Griffin was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Alapaha. He was named Berrien County’s Oldest Farmer Of The Year in 2006.
Mr. Griffin is survived by his wife of 67 years, Geneva McMillan Griffin of Alapaha; children, Gene Edison (Mary Ann) Griffin of Knoxville, TN, Carolyn Griffin Purvis of Alapaha, John Wayne (Cindy) Griffin of Bonifay FL, Mary Ann Griffin (Donald) Woody of Nashville, Charles Daniel Griffin of Milledgeville and James Thomas (Kathy) Griffin of Alapaha; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Bessie G. Harper of Nashville as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Bob, Aaron and Mack Griffin and a son-in-law, Wayne Purvis.
