Dorothy (Freitas) Santos, 72, of Mattapoisett, died December 4, 2001 at home after a long illness with her children by her side.
Mrs. Santos was born in New Bedford and had lived in Dartmouth for most of her life. She had lived in Mattapoisett for the past 10 years. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School, and attended the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth for bilingual studies from 1977-1979.
Mrs. Santos was employed by the New Bedford School Department for 25 years until her retirement in 1995. She began her career in the Department's Bilingual program and ended her career in the Special Needs program. Throughout her career, she was involved in the Massachusetts Migrant Education Summer program.
Mrs. Santos was a former member of the Catholic Women's Club. She enjoyed traveling with her children, ice skating, dancing and gardening.
Survivors include a daughter, Koreen A. Santos of Mattapoisett; 2 sons, Kevin C. Santos of Dartmouth and Keith C. Santos of California; 3 brothers, Arthur R. Freitas of Dartmouth, James R. Freitas of North Kingston, RI, Alfred R. Freitas of East Sandwich.
She was the sister of the late Lewis R. Freitas and Dennis Freitas.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth, Friday, December 7th at 1:30 PM, followed by burial in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted.
