BOSCAWEN, NH: Bernice D. “Bernie” (Levy) Daniels, R.N., age 93, a former 60 year resident of Tewksbury, died Tuesday, March 6, 2007 in the care of Hospice at the Merrimack County Nursing Home.
She was the wife of Leon Daniels, who died in 1979.
Born in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, on January 15, 1914, she was the seventh child of the late Robert and Elfreda (Cook) Levy.
She emigrated from Canada to Methuen, MA on May 10, 1924 and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1931.
Mrs. Daniels moved to Tewksbury in 1932 and entered nursing training at the former Massachusetts State Infirmary, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1935.
Following graduation, she continued to work at the Tewksbury Hospital as a maternity nurse. She welcomed hundreds of children into the world and cared for young mothers, until her retirement in 1973.
She was a member of the Massachusetts State Infirmary Nurses Alumni Society.
Mrs. Daniel was a woman who put the needs of others before her own. She was gracious, generous, warm, caring, smiling and accepting.
In 1992, she moved from Tewksbury to Canterbury, NH, where she lived until moving to Rochester, VT and finally to Boscawen, NH in 2005.
She is survived by two children, Patricia Fijalkowski and her husband Peter and Rev. Dr. William “Bill” Daniels and his wife Ellen; five grandchildren, Kathleen Mayer and her husband Jeffrey, Richard Fijalkowski and his wife Sadie, Beth Chudoba, Craig Chudoba and his wife Theresa and Deborah Daniels; five great grandchildren, Christopher Mayer, Ashley Mayer, Tatiyana Chudoba, Elizabeth Fijalkowski and Terence Chudoba; also several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Daniels was pre-deceased by six brothers and three sisters.
Calling hours Saturday, March 10th, from 10-11 a.m., followed by her Memorial Service to be held at the funeral home. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. Rev. Dr. William Daniels will officiate and coordinate as family members participate in the service.
