DRACUT-Richard Joseph Dawson, 77, a resident of Dracut and formerly a longtime resident of Bedford, died March 8th in Fairhaven Nursing Home after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Lillian (Kozma) Dawson with whom he was married for 56 years.
He was born on March 19, 1929 in Boston the son of the late Joseph B. and the late Marguerite (Faust) Dawson. Mr. Dawson was an United States Army veteran serving in World War II. Mr. Dawson was employed by the Architects Collaborative in Cambridge for many years until retirement. During his employment he worked on many projects including the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Children's Hospital in Boston and the former Bank of Boston skyscraper on Federal Street in Boston.
In his free time he enjoyed building model boats, model airplanes and boomerangs.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his son, James R. Dawson and his wife Marguerite of Ashburn, VA; his daughter, Susan J. Dee of Dracut; his sister, Dorothy Gibbs of West Roxbury; two grandchildren, Kristin Dee of Chelmsford and Joel Dee of Dracut; his former son-in-law and friend, James Dee of Chelmsford; several nephews and nieces.
Her was also the brother-in-law of the late Dr. Raymond W. Gibbs.
Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT on Monday from 6:00 until 7:30 PM, followed by his funeral service at 7:30 PM in the funeral home. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the MSPCA, 350 South Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02130.
