Joyce A. (Farrell) Dowd, a 30 year resident of Melrose, died suddenly of an apparent heart attack while vacationing in Cancun, Mexico. She was 53 years old.
Joyce was born in Boston on May 23, 1953. She grew up in South Boston where she attended Gate of Heaven Parachial School and then graduated from South Boston High School in 1971. She also attended Brandeis University for 2 years. Joyce has been working at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington as a medical secretary for the last 8 years. She was dedicated to taking care of the 3 men in her life.
Joyce is the beloved wife of Thomas E. Dowd. She is the devoted mother of Christopher T. and Timothy P. Dowd both of Melrose. She is the beloved daughter of Elizabeth A. (Fowles) Farrell of South Boston and the late Thomas J. Farrell. She is the beloved sister of Gerald Fowles of Readville, Margaret "Peggy" Fowles of Kentucky and Marie Farrell of South Boston. Joyce is the best friend of Margaret Mika of Alpharetta, Georgia.
Joyce's Funeral will be held on Monday, March 12, 2007, at 10 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main Street, Melrose, followed by her Funeral Mass in The Church of The Incarnation, 425 Upham Street, Melrose, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Joyce will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2007, from 2 to 6 p.m. Burial will take place at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
