Mary Ellen Sweet, 63, of Mansfield formerly of Franklin died peacefully on Thursday March 8, 2007 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of John L. Nolan, III.
Born in Boston, MA on September 19, 1943 she was a loving daughter of Ann T. (Hogarty) Sweet of Mansfield and the late Arthur J. Sweet.
She grew up in West Roxbury and was a 1961 graduate of Roslindale High School. She went on to graduate from the Boston State Teachers College where she received her Bachelors of Art Degree and later received her Masters Degree in foreign language.
In 1965 Mary Ellen began her teaching career in the Foxboro School System. She started at the Foxboro Intermediate School and in 1965 began a new job at the Foxboro High School where she worked until her retirement in 2001. She was a Foreign Language Teacher and had taught both French and Spanish. She was an active member of the Foreign Language Association.
She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield. Mary Ellen’s interests included knitting, scrap booking, cooking, golfing and traveling. Her favorite times were those spent in the presence of her loving family. She had lived in Mansfield for over 2 years and was formerly of Franklin for 12 years.
Besides her beloved husband and loving mother she is survived by her dear sisters Carole O’Connor of Bellingham and Virginia Murray of Onset. Her 3 loving stepchildren, Her 11 grandchildren and 2 nieces and 5 nephews. She was the sister of the late Arthur Sweet, John Sweet and Elaine Sweet.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday March 12th at 8:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday March 11th from 3-6 P.M. at the funeral home.
