Obituary

William A. “Bill” Mason, Jr., 82 of West Yarmouth, died Tuesday after a long illness in the Anna Jaques, Newburyport, MA.

Born in Boston, he lived in West Yarmouth for the past 12 years and formerly of Medford. William was the son of the late Anna (Butler) and William A. Mason Sr. He was a investigator for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with the Division of Employment Security for 30 years and retired in 1988. William served during World War II in the U. S. Army from 1943 to 1945. He was in the battles and campaigns of Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland. He was wounded in France and Germany and received the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with 3 Bronze Service Stars, the Purple Heart with 1 Oak Cluster, Combat Infantryman Badge and the Good Conduct Medal.


Beloved husband of the late Louise D. (DelGaizo) Mason. Devoted father of William A. Mason III of North Andover, Scott James Mason of Medford, Patricia Ann Shea of Merrimac. Also survived by 7 loving grandchildren. Brother of Joseph B. Mason of PA. Brother in law of Robert and Veronica Brown of FL.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Saturday at 8 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church 118 High St., Medford at 9 AM.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Visiting hours Friday 4-8.

Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent in William’s name to the Massachusetts Veterans Shelter, 69 Grove St., Worcester, MA 01605.
