Fall River - Ila M. (Gifford) Gonet, 93, of Westport passed away Sunday, March 4, 2007 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Augustine J. Gonet.
Born in Westport, daughter of the late Nelson D. and Mary I. (Gifford) Gifford, she was a lifelong resident of Westport. Mrs. Gonet graduated from the Lincoln School in Providence, RI and the Wheelock School in Boston, MA. She was a school teacher for the majority of her career in Westport prior to teaching in Dartmouth and New Bedford. She was a birthright member of the Allen’s Neck Friends Meeting, serving as treasurer for many years. She enjoyed the annual clambake at the meeting, where she worked at the handcraft table. Mrs. Gonet grew herb plants with her husband as a business and enjoyed feeding the birds and reading.
Including her husband, she is survived by a daughter: Barbara I. Schultz and her husband David M. of Torrington, CT; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Peter J. Gonet and sister of the late Nelson Gifford, Jr., Ralph Gifford and Lincoln Gifford.
Services to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, March 9, 2007 at the Allen’s Neck Friends Meeting, Dartmouth at 10:30 A.M.
Calling hours Thursday 6 - 8 P.M. at the Potter Funeral Home.
Interment in Allen’s Neck Friends Cemetery, Dartmouth.
