Obituary

LOWELL: Wendell B. Smith, age 73, a resident of Lowell, formerly of Tewksbury, died Sunday, March 4, 2007 at the Wingate at Lowell, following a long battle with cancer.
Born in Brattleboro, Vermont on November 29, 1933, he was the son of the late Clarence B. and Mabel (Wolfe) Smith.
Mr. Smith was raised in Brattleboro, VT
He attended Brattleboro schools and graduated from Brattleboro Memorial High School in 1951.
Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as an electronics instructor at the Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. He was honorably discharged from active duty on April 16, 1957 having earned the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Following his military service, he attended Northeastern University’s Lincoln Institute, where he received his degree in electrical engineering.
Mr. Smith was a resided in Tewksbury for 35 years. While living in Tewksbury, he coached and managed for the Tewksbury Little League and Tewksbury Senior League Baseball programs for 15 years.
He was a member of the Tewksbury Congregational Church, where he previously taught Sunday school for 20 years.
Mr. Smith was employed as a design engineer for the Raytheon Corporation for 10 years. He later worked for Merrimack Magnetics Corporation of Lowell for 20 years and was a partner and president of Century Magnetics of Franklin, NH.
In 1996, he founded and operated Inter-Mag Corporation of El Paso, Texas, where he has worked for the past 11 years.
He is survived by four sons, Stephen B. Smith and his wife Cynthia of Sanford, ME, David W. Smith and his wife Marjorie of Merrimack, NH, Jeffrey A. Smith and his wife Claire of Lowell and Michael J. Smith and his wife Luz Lydia of Tewksbury; eleven grandchildren, Jennifer, David, Jonathan , Matthew, Kara, Kyle, Stephanie, Brian, Marissa, Arianna and Ryan Smith; one sister, Evelyn Weston and her husband Herb of Buxton, ME; his former wife, Beverly G. Smith of Tewksbury; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Smith was the brother of the late Shirley Dionne and Jannette Smith.
At the request of the family funeral services are private.
