Obituary

Ruth C. (Knipes) Streeter of Hingham, MA died on March 3, 2007 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after a brief illness. She was born in Boston in 1922, the daughter of the late George and Margaret Knipes, and grew up in Somerville before attending Tufts University and graduating from Simmons College. She married her husband of 62 years, Dr. C. Clark Streeter, in 1944 and raised her family in Hanson before retiring to Marion in 1982. She and her husband moved to Linden Ponds in Hingham in 2005.
After her children were grown, Ruth was employed as a Latin teacher at Hanover High School for fifteen years until her retirement. She also was a past President of the Plymouth County Medical Auxiliary. Ruth most enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and travelling with her husband. Her main interests included sewing, card games (especially bridge), sailing and golfing.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Charles C. "Chuck" Streeter, Jr., and his wife Maureen, of Canton; 2 daughters, Laurel A. McAvoy, and her husband Dr. John McAvoy, of Santa Rosa, CA and Virginia S. Hamilton, and her husband Edward, of Needham; and 4 grandchildren, Holly McAvoy Hicks, Ian McAvoy, Stacy Hamilton and Meredith Hamilton.
Her Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 10th at 2 PM at the First Congregational Church of Marion, 28 Main St., Marion. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Deacons Fund for the First Congregational Church of Marion, PO Box 326, Marion, MA 02738 or to the South Shore Hospital Foundation, 55 Fogg Road, South Weymouth, MA 02190. Arrangements are with the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6) Mattapoisett.
