Obituary

LAWRENCE - Richard D. Cain, 96, of Lawrence and formerly of Methuen, died Saturday, March 3, 2007 at the Lawrence General Hospital after a brief illness.

The son of the late Timothy and Julia (Conolly) Cain, Richard was born and educated in Lawrence and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the LST 777 in the Pacific Theatre.

He was later employed for over 20 years as a security guard at Western Electric in North Andover. After retirement, he worked as a school bus driver in Methuen.

He attended St. Monica's Church, was active at the Methuen Senior Center and was also a member of Pioneers of America.

Mr. Cain was predeceased by his wife of 73 years, Catherine (Hannigan) Cain and by his infant son, William Cain. He is survived by his two sons, Richard D. Cain Jr. and his wife Patricia of North Andover and Daniel J. Cain and his wife Donna of Salem, N.H.; his brother, Frank A. Cain and his wife Anna Maria of Lawrence; four grandchildren, Alexander and his wife Paula Cain, Scott and his wife Dana Cain, Caroline and her husband Ross Desmet, Nicole and her husband William Johnson; eight great-grandchildren, Brittany, Patrick, John, Sabastian, Abigail, Julia, Kendyll and Aundreia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. from St. Monica's Church in Methuen. Burial will follow at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in North Andover.
