Obituary

ASHBY-Cynthia T. (Smith) Golas, 53, a resident of Ashby, died Friday, March 2nd in Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill. She was the beloved wife of Robert P. Golas with whom she was married for 5 years.

She was born on January 12, 1954 in Lowell a daughter of the late Glenn J. and the late Doris R. (Lapointe) Smith.

Mrs. Golas was employed by the MKS Instruments Company where she worked in quality control for 2 years. Previously she worked for the VNA Care Network for 10 years.

She enjoyed camping and loved her dog Rocky; he was her baby and was a source of laughter.

Mrs. Golas was the senior vice president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 247 in Tyngsboro. She also organized functions for the commander for the AM VET Post 247 in Tyngsboro. Mrs. Golas participated in many military and veterans fundraisers, including crocheting for U.S. troops stationed in Iraq.

In addition to husband she is survived by her daughter, Michelle Harkins and her husband John of Newburyport; two stepsons, Aaron Golas of Dracut and PFC Trevor Golas stationed in Georgia at Fort Stewart; two brothers, Ronald Smith and his wife Lucy of Merrimack, NH and Brian Smith of Lowell; two sisters, Kathleen Hamilton and her husband Walter of Lowell and Diane Fries and her husband George of Chelmsford; four grandchildren, Jareth Renaud, Sean Renaud, Theresa Harkins and Ashlynn Renaud; her mother-in-law, Geraldine Golas of Dracut; many nephews and nieces.

She was also the mother of the late Richard Renaud.

Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT on Sunday from 2:00 until 6:00 PM. Her funeral will be held from the funeral home on Monday at 8:00 AM, followed by her Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish at Ste. Therese Church in Dracut. Committal prayers will be in St. Patrick Cemetery Chapel. Spring burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Edith Nourse Rogers VA Hospital, 200 Spring Road, Bedford, MA 01730-1198.
