Irene E. (Palmer) Goodwin, 98 of Franklin died March 2 in Ayer in the home of her daughter. She was the wife of the late Duncan W. Goodwin.
Born in Lower Caledonia, Nova Scotia Canada, April 5, 1908, the daughter of the late George and Delilah (MacKenzie) Palmer, Mrs. Goodwin was raised in Canada and came to America after her marriage. She lived for many years in Jamaica Plain and then in Port Charlotte, Florida where she lived until moving to Franklin 15 years ago.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Red Hat Society and had been active in the Republican Women’s Club in Port Charlotte.
Mrs. Goodwin was a talented seamstress.
She is survived by her son William D. Goodwin and his wife Anna of Norton and her daughter Cynthia M. Sawyer and her husband David of Ayer.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Richard W. Goodwin of Norton, Darin P. Goodwin of Norton, Gary S. Goodwin of Manlius, NY, Gregory D. Goodwin of Assonet, Scott D. Sawyer of Fairfield, CT, Tracy L. Flanagan of Westford and Mark D. Sawyer of Nashua, NH and 16 great-grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 6 in the Franklin Federated Church 171 Main St. in Franklin at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery in Boston.
Calling hours will be on Monday in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (ww.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main St., Franklin from 4-9 p.m.
