Giuliana M. (Peligrini) Sarno, of Medford’s Hillside, died Saturday at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston. She was 75.
Mrs. Sarno was born and raised in Lucca, Italy, the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Pia (Bonnini) Peligrini. Giuliana came to the United States when she was 20 and settled in Medford. After her marriage to Joe they began to raise their family. Giuliana was a dedicated wife, mother and adoring grandmother. She became active in Medford’s political affairs and was a vocal leader for her neighborhood. She was instrumental in the successful efforts to change the governmental charter from Plan E to Plan A.
She was the beloved wife of Joseph Sarno. She was a devoted mother to Michael, Joseph, Jr., Pattie, Mary, Nancy and the late Nancy. She was a loving grandmother to 10 Grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Peter and Marty.
Family and friends may call Wednesday from 4 thru 8 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford. A funeral service will be conducted in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, Medford, Thursday at 11 AM with the Reverend Paul G. Flammia, presiding. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
