William G.” Jake” Burbine, 82, died Sunday at his home in Whitman, after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Lorraine (Murphy) Burbine
Born and raised in Whitman, son of the late William and Saline(Brine) Burbine, he was a graduate of Whitman High School, and had lived in Whitman all his life. Jake also received his bachelors and master’s degrees at Boston College in chemistry.
Jake was a research Chemist for Cabot Corp .for over 30 years before retiring.he was also a veteran of WWI in United States Navy.
He was a communicant of the Holy Ghost Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus in Whitman; Scout Master Troop 22 for many years, Jake was the second Eagle Scout in Whitman.
He enjoyed, fishing gardening, model building and especially attending his grandsons sports events. He was a avid Red Sox’s fan.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda Kaplan, his grandsons Adam and Shane Kaplan, all of Whitman ,his brothers Thomas Burbine of Whitman and Lawrence Burbine of Bourne ;also several nieces, nephews,
Funeral from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street, (Route 58 at the Rotary Circle) Whitman, Wednesday February 28th at 8:15 A.M., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 A.M. in Holy Ghost Church, Whitman.
