Robert R. Coggin 73 of Franklin died February 24 in the Wayside Hospice in Wayland. He was the husband of Themis (Zannetos) Coggin for the past 46 years.
Born in Lynn April 27, 1933 the son of the late John and Esther (Stolpe) Coggin, Mr.Coggin was raised in Rockport and had lived in Franklin since 1964.
A graduate of Framingham State College, he was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for nearly 30 years, working primarily as the Central Massachusetts Regional parole supervisor.
He also had additional duties including an appointment as a Special State Police Officer for over 20 years.
Mr. Coggin served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War aboard the USS Oriskany. In later years, he became involved with the American Legion, George K. Menichios Post 324, having served as Commander.
He was active in his church and in the early 1990’s he helped found a new parish in Mansfield, St. Gregory the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church.
He was fond of national and international travel and was passionate about spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons Mark of Westboro, Michael of Boston and Paul of East Norwalk CT and his 2 grandsons Nicholas and Alexander of Westboro.
He is also survived by his sister Ruth Wood of Roswell GA, brother Bill Coggin of Topsfield, sisters Ingrid Chruniak of Beverly Farms, Norma Adams of Hampton Falls NH and brother John Coggin of Lowell.
He was the brother of the late Anne Levitsky and Ray Coggin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday February 28 in St.Gregory the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church ,1007 West St. Mansfield at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Franklin.
