Kathryn Coffey Glennon, 95, of Dartmouth died Friday February 23, 2007 at Alden Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Joseph R. Glennon, Jr.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Katherine (Phelan) Coffey. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School where she was Captain Battalion Sponsor of ROTC and girls representative to the athletic committee. She was a graduate of Lesley College and completed further studies at Stonehill College and Bridgewater State College.
Mrs. Glennon was a partner in Seaman Coffey Progressive Pre-School in New Bedford and Padanaram, a volunteer at Boston's Children's Hospital, a member of the Terre Haute Junior League, and a member of the Westchester, NY Children's Association. In the late 40's and 50's, she wrote a weekly column "With the Children" for the Ladies Home Journal, a column in the Westchester Women publication, and articles for Jack & Jill magazine. While a resident of Scarsdale, NY, she was made a Lady of Charity by the late Cardinal Francis Spellman.
After returning to Dartmouth, she was a partner with her late sister-in-law, Rita Barry, in the Padanaram Pre-School and was a special education teacher for the New Bedford School System. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. She was a member of St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary, St. Mary's Guild, the New Bedford Yacht Club, the Bristol County Teachers Association, the Dartmouth Republican Town Committee, and the Massachusetts Republican Committee. She had been a long time Dartmouth Town Meeting member.
She leaves her children, Dr. Joseph R. Glennon III and his wife Beverly of Dartmouth, Dr. Katharine Glennon Fralick and her husband Dr. Richard of Durham, NH, John G. Glennon and his wife Dondi of Pittsburg, CA, and Dr. Thomas M. Glennon and his wife Dr. Jody Kreiman of Santa Monica, CA; her grandchildren, Thomas P. Fralick and his wife Emily (Moore) of Lake Tahoe, CA, and Elizabeth Kathryn Kreiman Glennon of Santa Monica; her great-grandson, Oliver P Fralick of Lake Tahoe; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the grandmother of the late HansPeter Fralick, and sister of the late John W. Coffey.
Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Dartmouth, on Saturday March 31, 2007 at 11 AM. Her family will receive visitors at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford on Friday March 30, 2007 from 4-7 PM.
