Fall River - Richard Elliot Brown, 73, passed away Friday, February 23, 2007 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after courageous battle with lung cancer. He was the husband of Ann Elizabeth (Fairbanks) Brown to whom he had been married 33 years.
Born in Dedham, MA on June 2, 1933 he was the son of the late William Silas Brown and Willa (Ford) Brown.
He graduated from New Hampton School, Hampton, NH and Dartmouth College in 1955. After college he served 3 years in the United States Navy.
Mr. Brown grew up in Westport Point, MA. He and his wife eventually retired to Westport. Mr. Brown’s profession was banking starting his career at Boston Safe and Deposit and retiring as Senior Vice President of U.S. Trust Company in Boston. During these years he resided in Wellesley, MA. He enjoyed his membership at Brae Burn Country Club in Newton, MA. After retirement, the Brown’s wintered in Florida until the summer of 2006.
He was a member of the Elephant Rock Beach Club and Spindle Rock Club. He was a long-time member of the Acoaxet Club, Westport. Mr. Brown loved golf and the Acoaxet Club and was honored to serve on the Board of Governors for many years and at the present was the club’s Vice President.
Including his wife, he leaves 2 daughters: Julie Ford Brown and Sarah Brown Moran both of Westport; a godson who became his step-son: Joshua Barton Read of Berkley, MA; and 3 granddaughters: Corey Gifford, Kiah Murphy and Hana Murphy all of Westport.
He was the brother of the late William Brown, Robert Brown and Willa Brown.
